This week was mostly full of writing and reading. I can tell if it’s been a busy week by how few pics I take and this week it wasn’t many! No one wants to see my fingers on my keyboard day after day. We had theater five days this week and church stuff the other two, so all four of us haven’t been in the same spot at the same time very often. I’m looking forward to a relatively quiet weekend mostly at home.
Nancy Guthrie is one of my favorite writers (and speakers) on suffering. She has a new book coming out I’m looking forward to reading, especially after seeing this post from the Crossway blog: How to Comfort the Grieving: Click the Like Button.
I did an interview with Lorna Bradly for Key Ministry on the importance of support groups for special-needs families and how churches can help.
We started a new series on The MOB Society about Hope for the Hurting Mom. All the posts so far have been good, so start with For When Your Hopes Don’t Come True and read them all.
I read a lot this week because lots of books came in through Kindle library holds at the same time! I didn’t finish Thrive by Arianna Huffington, but I read the parts I was most interested in. I read Glennon’s Love Warrior in a day. (She an amazing truth teller, but it’s her own truth and not the truth of Scripture.)
I’m almost finished with Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance. It’s so good. Now that we live in suburban Houston, I’m around fewer “hillbillies, rednecks, and white trash” (the neighbors, friends, and family Vance writes about with honesty and compassion), but I want to understand the background and motivations (just like I read and listen to understand the Black Lives Matter movement or the Asian immigrants who make up 30% of my neighborhood). From my Bible:
In the read through the Bible series the church we attend is doing, we’re in the gospels. Lee preached from Mark on Sunday and we’re in John. I keep repeating a phrase found in John 1:16, “For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” I love that it comes to us from his fullness (not our own). I love that we all received it. I love that it’s grace upon grace.
The website is getting a makeover and every time I log in it looks a little different, which is fun! I’ll be sure to announce on social media when it’s all done and we’ll have a free gift available.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of your favorites things!
