I’m one of those people who gets a new calendar in August instead of January. Since I transitioned from school to teaching to homeschooling, following the school year calendar makes sense to me. August is a time to evaluate how the year is going so far, set new goals, and get used to a new routine.

Here are a few things I have on my to-do list in August (a couple affiliate links are included):

  • Michael Hyatt is one of my favorite podcasters. He recently posted the encore episode on the 7 benefits of journaling. I want to start taking a few minutes at the end of each day to write down what happened. We’re hoping and praying we’ll get a referral for a boy in Ethiopia who needs a mom, dad, and two brothers, so this year will bring lots of changes to our family. I want to remember the journey.
  • Design by Insight has been posting on editorial calendars, and I’ve implemented their tips. I hope to continue this routine!
  • Take Mandi’s 10-week online course, “From Idea to E-Book.” Publishing an e-book was so much fun and I learned a lot from the experience, but I know there’s more to learn from Mandi who has had lots of success. If you’re interested, sign-up and jump in!
  • Buy the new album by The Civil Wars (releases Aug. 6th). They are one of my favorite bands and I’m excited to hear their new material.
  • Attend the Timothy+Barnabas retreat for pastors and pastors’ wives in Philadelphia. I’m always excited to spend time with Lee and I’m looking forward to what we’ll learn and the encouragement we’ll receive.
  • Go see “The Butler,” a movie about an African-American butler in the White House from the presidencies of Eisenhower through Reagan. It releases the 16th. There aren’t many movie I get excited about, but this one looks really good.
  • Relax with friends on our girls’ weekend trip. Ah, can’t wait!
  • Send my baby to kindergarten and start my big boy in 2nd grade. (Let’s quickly move to the next to-do on the list . . .)
  • Work toward our new book’s release in September. The writing is done, so we’re working on design, formatting, and marketing.
  • Have dinner with the deacons’ wives. Why should our husbands always have all the fun? 🙂

Are you looking forward to August? Anything fun on your to-do list?
